Ask Amy: This couple doesn’t speak to me anymore. Should I write them a letter about my bad behavior?

Ask Amy: This couple doesn’t speak to me anymore. Should I write them a letter about my bad behavior? Dear Amy: Years ago, I had an affair with the wife of a good friend (and co-worker).The affair ended my marriage, but somehow they managed to hold theirs together. They are still together today.Even though we all live in the same city our paths very seldom cross, but when they have, we all act like we don’t even know each other. We have not exchanged one word since the affair ended.I truly would like to apologize for the role that I played in this mess but am unsure about whether that would be a helpful thing at this point.I don’t know what bringing this subject back up after all this time might do to their relationship. This thought has left me unable to move forward with an apology.Do you think that writing a letter of apology to both of them would be appropriate?Guilty GuyDear Guilty: I don’t think writing a letter of apology is necessarily appropriate, but this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it.You should very carefully interrogate your reasons for wanting to do this, and walk th...

Harriette Cole: My friend wouldn’t pay when I forgot my wallet. Do I confront her? DEAR HARRIETTE: A few days ago, I went out with a friend for dinner. As I was about to pay, I realized that I had left my wallet at home. Not to worry, I thought. I had my phone, and I knew that the venue accepted Apple Pay.So I attempted to use it, only to find out that it wasn’t working. It was embarrassing, to say the least. To add insult to injury, my friend didn’t offer to pay for me. I found this to be a bit odd because I had recently hosted her at my house for the weekend. I had cooked her meals, offered her my guest room and driven her around town. It didn’t seem fair that she couldn’t even offer to cover my meal. I must admit that my feelings are a bit hurt.Related ArticlesAdvice | Harriette Cole: My boss may be losing her memory, and it’s causing chaos Advice | Harriette Cole: I’m going to be seething if this kid sticks with his summer routine Advice | Harriette Cole: My girlfriend canceled our v...
